Coal Helps Keep Electricity Prices Low
A survey of our country’s largest power providers released last week by NUS Consulting Group shows that electricity prices are rising across the board.
Not coincidentally, states that rely on coal to generate the majority of their electricity saw the smallest rate increases and enjoy some of the cheapest power.
Customers in New York City pay the highest rates for electricity, with customers in parts of New York State right behind. Not surprisingly, they only use low-cost coal to generate only about 15 percent of their electricity. Californians also pay high rates, and they only generate 1 percent of their electricity with coal.
Ohio, Missouri and North Carolina are three of the states cited as having low rates, and they respectively generate 86 percent, 84 percent and 60 percent of their electricity using coal.
Coal is not only our country’s most abundant fuel, but also our most affordable – that’s why we need to continue to explore better and cleaner ways to use it.

Coal may be the most affordable way to making electricity but the conversion of coal to electricity is very inefficient. Moreover, burning coal produces a huge amount of green house gases.
Instead of ultimately exhausting the natural resources on the planet, we should invest on solar and wind energy, which are far, far, far cleaner than coal and are essentially free and unlimited.

Another very big factor in the cost of electricity is the deregulation of prices. States like California where deregulation is in effect have seen their prices skyrocket while in states like Pennsylvania where prices are still regulated costs still remain affordable.

I couldn't be happier that these ads are starting to run on national tv. Espically now that in Eastern South Dakota, the building of a $1 billion coal burning facility, was blocked by the supreme court of Minnesota because of some sierra club & environmentalists think Minnesotans can use solar power to keep our cost of living down. Keep this site up and running and the environmentalists out of our pocket books because with the Cap & Trade, Warner & Lieberman bill, these ads & this website might just keep the people informed about how much Coal is apart of all of our lives. The reason i know this to be true is because i knew nothing about coal until I start to listen to talk radio.

Jeremiah, talk radio is not the place to get informed. Global warming is real. There is no such thing as clean coal. If you want to know more about coal, just try to get in touch with the people who live around the coal mines. Mining for coal is destroying the land. You might be saving a few bucks, but mining companies are raking in the millions. This web site is all about making more money at the expense of the land and people. You might think differently if it was in your backyard.
