Hello from Mississippi!

Check out our Clean Coal ad on the CNN Express Yourself bus!

We’ve been on the Ole Miss campus all afternoon talking about our commitment to clean coal as a source of affordable, reliable American energy.

The campus is abuzz as we close in on the first presidential debate tonight at 8P (CST). Tune into hear what the candidates have to say about national security, and check back here for more updates from the road.

How on God's green earth can people be so deluded as to declare coal as clean? MTR (mountain Top Removal)involves complete deforestation of huge tracts of pristine forest lands....unless you think tranforming W Virginia into a moonscape is 'clean'...don't get me started on shale and oilsands....just park your pickups already.

McCain mopped the floor with obama

Look, for those who don't know, clean coal is a form of coal that exists in small amounts and is currently mostly available in West Virginia where harvesting it is destroying natural landscape. This "myth" that all coal can be clean or that coal is a "cleaner" solution is based on the lower emissions that this special coal creates.

However, there is still the ash produced from this coal, the devastation on the environment in the form of mountain destruction and valley and river filling, as well as loss of jobs (since mountain flattening requires fewer employees than digging). All told, the cost to the environment is the same or worse, not to mention the cost to the economy.

Here's hoping this site isn't just a mouthpiece for energy companies and that it will show both sides of the controversial "cleanliness" of coal harvesting and burning.

Pamela - good point, I wonder what the industry's definition of 'clean' is. Using the energy of coal with no wilderness impact, no CO2, and no atmospheric pollutants sounds great. I'd like to see the specifics America's Power's plan. America's Power, please advise.
