I was reading the latest headlines on CNN.com a moment ago when I saw a flash ad by GE.
In the ad, GE Vice Chairman John Krenicki says,”The only way to solve the energy challenge is through technology.”
He says that the solution will be in technology investments in “biomass, renewables, natural gas, nuclear, cleaner coal, subsea exploration, cleaning up water…”
After watching the ad, I have to say… I agree. We’re going to need all of our domestic resources to meet the rise in electricity demand. I would add, of course, that our most abundant fuel source, coal, is going to continue to play a key role in meeting the energy challenge.
Note: General Electric Capital Corporation is a member of our organization.

The American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCCE) is committed to the idea that America can have the affordable, reliable electricity we need, with the clean environment we want. ACCCE’s Behind the Plug blog is the place for up-to-date news and analysis on clean coal technology developments and energy policy progress.
this website is total bull, it’s time to move away from carbon based electricity
Clean coal does not exist. Even if it did than it would still pollute. Renewable energy makes the most sense to invest $50 billion in.
Ditto
Nuclear is more “abundant” than coal.
And you didn’t really change what you had to say “After watching the ad”.
Hack.
Post for David, Mike & Mark.
The Price of Green! I’m a BSME, mechanical engineer, and just returned from a Sacramento, CA holiday visit w/ my family. Curiously, I made an energy audit of their PG&E utility bills. Their total electric for 29 days, Oct.08, was $453.42 or 25.7 cents/kwh as in kilowatt hour. Our Denver, CO electric bill, for same month of Oct., was $87.30 or 9.7 cents/kwh. The difference? Xcel, our gas & electric dual utility generates 75% of its electricity from clean, western, lo sulphur coal. You want GREEN, you pay for it!!
Otherwise, use decades-old clean coal GASIFICATION technology, currently available. We call our technology MaGIC, for “mild gasification, integrated combined cycle.” PG & E imports all of their natural gas used in electric power generation. And that my friends “is no bulls…!!
I agree with the other three comments. The best natural resource that we should be tapping in the United States is our ability to invent alternative forms of energy that won’t rely on natural resources.
What does NOT exist is enough renewable, non carbon based, energy to continue mankind’s advance through the 21st century, or at least through about 2075. Coal is one source of energy that comes from the U.S. It’s use and the development of better, more efficient scrubbers is
the easiest and quickest method of achieving our energy independance while controlling our environmental pollution.
We absolutely want to continue research and development of solar, geo-thermal, ocean wave…anything and everything.
Nuclear must be dramatically expanded.
What I don’t understand is why some would shut down what exists when there is currently no replacement.
Certainly we would hope that carbon based energy becomes the horse and buggy of the 22nd century. However, mankind won’t get to the 22nd century if we stop all carbon based energy use immediately.
Cdor hits the nail on the head with this statement:
“What I don’t understand is why some would shut down what exists when there is currently no replacement.”
Currently, coal-based electricity is our most affordable, reliable source for baseload electricity, while renewables like solar and wind are great alternatives for peaking power.
If we cut coal use today, could you imagine the fallout? Fifty percent of the country gets their electricity—including heating and lighting—from coal.
One thing that has been clear to us here at ACCCE, is that we need all of our domestic energy sources to meet our growing energy demand, secure our energy independence and protect the planet.
Once the coal is out of the ground, clean coal technology does exist. We will prove that to anyone who wishes to test us. Our technology can reduce all toxic emissions by 99.9% and it has been tested with the data to prove it.
There are few pertinent questions concerning our technology.
Does the world really want coal to burn clean or are the forces aligned against coal in general, more powerful than the forces aligned for it?
Will Wall St allow it to come to pass or does Wall St want carbon credit trading to become their next money maker.
Time will tell…..
