Duke Energy to Invest $121 Million to Study Carbon Storage in Indiana
Duke plans to look at sites to store some of the carbon emissions from its Edwardsport Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) power plant. Currently under construction, this clean coal plant also happens to be the most recent stop on our Factuality Tour.
The high efficiency associated with IGCC technology is well-suited for the capture of CO2. I’ve talked with folks at the Edwardsport project, and they fully expect to do carbon capture and storage there soon after that project comes on-line (it is slated to begin operation in 2012).
Obviously, this is a win-win situation. The Edwardsport plant will generate the reliable electricity Indianans need to meet their growing energy demand, create good jobs to help the local economy, and preserve our environment at the same time.

As a concerned West Virginian, I keep asking “where are our elected officials- Senators Byrd and Rockefeller; Representatives Moore, Rahall, and Mollohan; and Gov. Manchin?” Waxman/Marley’s legislation will destroy our states economy. Yet, I don’t see our elected officials coming forward with objections.
Please read Gov. Daniels (www.mymanmitch.com) of Indiana article (Wall Street Journal 5/15/09 ) regarding Cap & Trade and the effect it will have on his state. My fellow West Virginians it will be ten times more counter productive and damaging to our own state because coal is a much greater portion of our economy.
This reminds me of the asbestos legislation that was fostered on the American people several years ago. It has recently been stated that this legislation might, might (unknown) save one life per one billion dollars spent.
We the people can no longer afford stupid laws to be forced down our throats. Cap & Trade is a tax! It is a means of transferring dollars to Waxman’s and Markley’s states. It is taxation without representation . It is being neatly bundled and passed off as a sin tax.
Our elected officials need to step up and adamantly oppose this dastardly unfair means of taxation and defend our future.
